Perfect Poem Award | Mandi Poefficient Vundla

Mandi Poefficient Vundla’s poem ‘The Starving Preface’ has been nominated for the first ever Word N Sound Perfect Poem Award. Find out how to vote for this poem below.

When writing the poem, what did you hope the audience would take/experience/learn from it?

I don’t write for the audience.
It’s first for me, they are secondary.
So I really have no expectations. I am however delighted when some one says “that piece moved me, and I can’t get it out of my mind”.
When my poems speak not only to me but to the listeners as well to a point that they begin to question my content and the depth of its truth…all is well with my soul

.

How did the Word N Sound fam receive the poem? Was the feedback positive or negative?
Some couldn’t believe I mention Mandela
but when it came to “Our poverty is the 8th wonder of the world”
aaahhhhhhh, the crowd amused me.
Their response was so random. I didn’t expect that line to make people cry the way they did.
Their applause intercepted my poem from “Children drawing imaginary friends to cry on”.

Like I said, I write first for me, so it’s humbling when your audience understands and relates to what you’re talking about

.

If you could perform this piece to anyone in the world (one person or a group) who would it be and why?
TOURISTS: Who cant wait to blabber about our state of poverty when their fathers are responsible for it and for killing us.Americans will come to S.A on a sponsored trip under
some endeavor to save Africa, you ask why they are
here, they say oh I’m here on an UN-AID or some other program/project, to save Africa. They should save Africa from their homes by
telling their fathers to stop killing us.
THE ANC needs to quit prostituting our poverty
when they are responsible for it

If someone were to hear only one line of your poem, which line would you chose to say?
OBVIOUS….
and the thing is, I never chose this line
, the people did
: “OUR POVERTY IS THE 8TH WONDER OF THE GLOBE”

How does it feel being nominated for the first ever ‘Word N Sound Perfect Poem Award’?
Serves as confirmation
. *Singing*
I WAS BORN FOR THIS Oh oh oh yesss!! *Singing*
